Sacraments: Marriage Preparation

The Diocese of Arundel and Brighton desires that couples give 6 months notice of their intention to marry.

Why? Marriage is a free act of consent by two sane adults of the opposite sex, anything that affects this freedom affects the validity of the marriage.  The church, therefore, has a moral obligation to help couples to reflect on the importance and the significance of the step they think they want to undertake.  During this time of preparation couples are required to take part in an engaged couples course. This may happen here in the parish or may be undertaken with a catholic organisation called Marriage Care who run a regular monthly course at Crawley.

Part of the preparation to marry will also involve the arranging of the service which is normally done with the help of a special pack given to each couple and with the assistance of the priest performing the marriage.

In 2011 marriage preparation in the parish will take place on Saturday 12 February (all day). On Sunday 13 February engaged couples will receive a blessing at the 10.30 Mass.
