Lenten Opportunities for 2011

 
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season we call Lent. The whole of Lent is
summed up in the words of Ash Wednesday's liturgy. "Turn away from sin and believe in the Gospel"
 
Prayer at St. Paul's Church
cross
Mass Come to Mass during the week. as detailed in the weekly bulletin. Every Friday morning during Lent, Mass will be at 7.00 am (no 9.30 am Mass).
 
Stations of the Cross

Each Tuesday after the 9.30 am Mass and on Saturdays after 9.30 am Morning Prayer. Also on Friday 1 April at 8.00 pm by candlelight.
Anyone wishing to lead the Stations of the Cross, please sign the list in the porch.

Rosary Each Wednesday after the 9.30 am Mass (except Wednesday 6 April when the Mass is at St. Stephen's Church, Horsted Keynes).  
Reconciliation Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation at our Reconciliation Service on Monday 18 April at 7.00 pm or each Saturday morning from 10.30 am.
Prayer and Adoration Spend some time in prayer and adoration before the Blessed Sacrament from after Mass till 12 noon on Thursdays.

Ecumenical Small Groups

Take part in an ecumenical small group in St Augustine's room:
Monday evenings 7.30 - 9.00 pm
Tuesday mornings 10.15 - 11.45 am
Thursday evenings 7.30 - 9.00 pm
Friday mornings 10 - 11.30 am

Ecumenical Services These will be led by different church leaders of the town on each Thursday at 12.10 pm at the URC church, South Road, and 6.30 pm at St Wilfrid's Church.
   
Prayer and Praise Each Friday evening at 7.45 pm in St. Augustine's Room.
 
Fasting and almsgiving
CAFOD

Keep the CAFOD Lent Fast Day on Friday 18 March and donate to CAFOD in the retiring collection on 20 March. Please use the special CAFOD envelope to gift aid your donation.

Cross
Lenten Alms Possibly keep each Friday in Lent as a day of fasting and give the money to Lenten Alms in support of the enclosed religious sisters of the diocese. We will have a retiring collection for this towards the end of Lent.
Gift for the poor Bring a gift for the poor to Mass on Holy Thursday evening (21 April) at 8.00 pm - tinned or dried foods, tea, coffee, sugar etc. These gifts will go to organisations that work with the homeless.
Support 'Water Aid' Take home a jar in aid of 'Water Aid' - fill it with change over Lent and return after Easter Sunday. Top of page
