Learning about the Catholic Faith

In Church terminology the process of a person learning about the Catholic Faith is called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, RCIA for short. The RCIA is often called a “Journey in Faith”.

Who is RCIA for?

It is for adults who want to learn more about the Catholic faith.
It is also for adults who have not been baptised, confirmed, or received the Eucharist, but who want to learn more and to move forward into full communion of the Catholic Church through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
Similarly, it is also for adults who are baptised Catholics, or baptised Christians from other Churches.

What is involved?

We meet one evening every other week.  The group is led by parishioners, under the guidance of our Parish Priest, Fr Trevor.
The aims are to deepen our faith; to learn about the sacraments and the Catholic faith; to answer and explore any questions that arise; and preparation to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
There is no pressure on anyone to join the Catholic Church or to receive the sacraments. These are personal decisions for the individual to make if, or when, he or she feels ready to move forward.
Our meetings are fairly relaxed and informal.  Everyone is encouraged to participate, and we normally have a mid-evening break for tea or coffee.

What should I do if I want to find out more, or to join our RCIA Group?

Please contact the Parish Office.  Fr Trevor will advise you and he will put you in touch with the leaders of our RCIA Group.
